Confirmation was given at a recent meeting of Cavan County Council that a number of agencies are working together to remove invasive weeds growing in Lough Oughter and other waterways.
Developments came on foot of a notice of motion on the matter that was submitted by Cllr John Paul Feeley.
He told the meeting the issue was first raised towards the end of 2021 and since then a number of access points on the lake have become inaccessible.
Cllr Feeley highlighted how the weed - Canadian Knotweed - was also visible from the lake and was negatively impacting fishing in the area.
Director of Services, Brendan Jennings, said the issue was one of national significance and he highlighted how LAPRO, NPWS, IFI and Waterways Ireland were working in conjunction with each other to address the problem.
