Gardaí in Cavan and Monaghan are reminding motorists to be aware of the increase in the volume of agricultural vehicles on the roads. When travelling behind a tractor or other slow moving vehicles, motorists are reminded be "patient" and don't be tempted to overtake in a dangerous manner. Always be on the look out for farm machinery exiting fields and farm yards.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Garda Lisa Stevens of Bailieborough Garda Station said that farmers also need to be "safety conscious" too. If you become aware that the traffic is building up behind you, Garda Stevens said that it is important to "keep left" when safe to do so in order to allow others to pass safely. She also reminded motorists to "never" use your mobile phone while driving farm machinery on public roads.
