A new Advanced Midwife Practitioner has been approved for Cavan General Hospital.
It comes after concerns this week about the closure of its Midwifery Led Maternity Unit.
The Health Minister Simon Harris is to meet local midwives via conference call tomorrow to discuss the situation in Cavan.
He says the Government remains committed to the service and National Maternity Strategy, which would see an expansion of midwife led care across the country.
The RCSI Hospitals Group is yet to respond to a request from Northern Sound News.
Earlier this week Minister Harris said funding for maternity services in Cavan had been approved and today local Minister Heather Humphreys and Senator Joe O'Reilly confirmed the provision includes funding for an Advanced Midwife Practitioner.
