Families of missing people across Ireland gathered in Croke Park today to remember their loved ones at the 12th annual 'Missing Persons' day. Gardaí are continuing their work on many cases, including the disappearance of Co Cavan woman Jean Tighe. Ms Tighe has been missing since the 13th of July 2020 after she disappeared from Parede, a Portuguese holiday resort.
Since her disappearance, Deputy Brendan Smith has made numerous representations to the Departments of Foreign Affairs and Justice to stress the absolute necessity of ensuring proper and adequate searches are undertaken to locate Jean. Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Smith said that he would "never give up" on Jean's case or in fighting to get more answers; "I will continue to work on this until we get responses," he told Northern Sound. "I'm never giving up on this and I will continue to highlight to the Portuguese authorities that we need answers and we want and insurance that the most comprehensive search and investigations are underway to ensure that Jean is reunited with her family. That's the aim of all of us and I will not give up on this under any circumstances. I will continue my engagement through our Department of Foreign Affairs and their colleagues in Portugal and also through An Garda Síochána and through the Department of Justice here.
Elsewhere, Cllr Shane P O'Reilly has made an appeal to anyone with information to come forward. He said that like many across the region, he will be thinking of the Tighe family today; "Today we are thinking of Jean Tighe who went missing in 2020. As we've just went by the fourth anniversary since her disappearance in Portugal I would certainly like to re-new the appeal for any information in relation to Jean's disappearance in Portugal. It's just a shocking time for any family, community or anyone who is involved or knows someone who went missing." If you have any information relating to any missing persons case in Ireland please report it to your local Garda Station or contact us here at the National Missing Persons Helpline on 1800 442 552.
