Local Fianna Fáil TD, Deputy Brendan Smith, has welcomed top-up funding of €209,321 for Cavan Regional Sports Campus. It brings the total investment to date to €1,047,001. The additional funding for projects is being provided in response to delays experienced by grantees arising from the pandemic and construction inflation and following engagement with the Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Deputy Smith said that this major funding will enable the preparatory planning and design work for the new Regional Sports Complex in Cavan Town. He went on to highlight his support for the "great work" of Cavan County Council, Cavan County Board GAA, the Royal School and other sporting organisations who are working to bring this major project to fruition. Deputy Smith continued; "I'm delighted that my Fianna Fáil colleague, Minister Thomas Byrne has sanctioned an additional €209,000 in respective planning and design work that is underway for the proposed new regional sports complex in Cavan Town. Of course, this is a major project that will be of huge significance, not just to Cavan but to the region."
