Sourcing accommodation remains one of the biggest challenges for local students.
That's the view of Sadhbh O'Reilly from Cavan, who is heading into her 2nd year studying Primary Teaching in DCU. Leaving Cert results are set to be released on August 23rd, with round 1 CAO offers due out on August 28th. However applications for on-campus accommodation at many universities will have closed around March or April.
Speaking to Kelly Ann Coyle on FYI, Sadhbh says this places additional pressure on students who might not know exactly where they want to go or what they want to study.
She says it may force them to accept a place for fear of losing their accommodation offer.
"It's not easy for people when they don't know exactly what they're doing especially when you don't have your results. It's definitely hard. I know a lot of people who get their offers after their results and they're scrambling to try and find accommodation. A lot of people would commute for the first one or two weeks while they're in Dublin, Cork, or Limerick. They try to find digs or even friends to stay with for a night or so because it's crazy to commute".
