Mr Brady failed to overturn his conviction.

Aaron Brady has lost an appeal against his conviction for the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe. The 33-year-old, who’s from Crossmaglen in County Armagh, was convicted by a jury in 2020, and must serve a minimum of 40 years behind bars. It was the prosecution’s case that Aaron Brady was the masked gunman who shot Det Garda Adrian Donohoe at close range with a shotgun during a robbery outside Lordship Credit Union in 2013, and following the longest murder trial in the history of the State, he was convicted of capital murder seven years later.

His lawyers raised almost 50 grounds of appeal, including complaints of the judge’s decision to allow the trial to go ahead during the pandemic. They also raised issues about the admissibility of certain evidence, including the testimony of a key witness, which was given through a live video link, and featured interruptions in a way that was said to have interfered with the integrity of the trial. However, in a detailed 360-page judgement delivered today, all of his grounds of appeal were rejected and his conviction was upheld by the court as safe and proper.
