Supporters of the A5 'Enough is Enough' campaign have described the conclusion of a recent public inquiry as "positive" and "encouraging." Campaigners calling for the long-awaited dual carriageway to be built between Aughnacloy close to the Monaghan border and Derry, confirmed that as a result of the recent public inquiry, the promised carriageway will be completed by 2028.
Speaking to Northern Sound, chairman of the A5 'Enough is Enough' campaign, Niall McKenna said the public inquiry provided an opportunity for the previously silent majority to finally have their say and the turnout at the inquiry was remarkable. Mr McKenna added that he looks forward to seeing the new A5 built without further delay which will improve the lives of road users and save countless lives.
"The new A5 has attracted unanimous cross-party and cross-border political support," he explained. "We thank all the politicians who have supported the scheme and particular appreciation is extended to all those who attended the inquiry.
"The level of support for a new A5 is now unstoppable. The A5 Enough is Enough campaign is extremely confident that work on the new Dual Carriageway will commence very soon and should be completed in 2028. The Commissioner has indicated that he expects to deliver his final report which he confirmed would be in place by the end of the calendar year."
