Tonight, the fourth in a series of six lectures with Dr William Murphy and Dr Anne Dolan takes place on ‘Days in the Life: Reading the Michael Collins Diaries’ at Johnston Central Library in Cavan town.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Brendan Scott from Cavan Library said that while so much is known about Michael Collins given his love affair with Granard woman Kitty Kiernan there is much more revealed through the diaries.
"Through the diaries we learn how extraordinarily busy he was and it's so interesting" says Brendan.
Hurried notes, necessary lists, names and appointments, things to do and things not done. From 1918 to 1922 Michael Collins kept working on diaries of his busy revolutionary life.
According to Brendan, the diaries begin with Collins a revolutionary among many, and end with Collins as the most powerful figure in Ireland.
The event is due to begin at 7.30 tonight:
