There has been an 85 per cent increase in new home commencements in County Monaghan, according to the Taoiseach.
Simon Harris was questioned about the housing crisis in the region on Friday's Joe Finnegan Show.
The Fine Gael leader said there are now 300 new commencements every working day in Ireland, and every week, 500 people buy their first home. By December 2023, there were 267 commencement notices for 267 homes in Monaghan and 249 in County Cavan. When it was put to him that his Government promised to build 250,000 new homes in the five years of its current term, but that last year they were 20,000 short of their 50,000 annual target, Simon Harris looked to County Monaghan:
