There is over 8,400 motorists on learning driving permits across Cavan and Monaghan.
Nationally there is 322,000 learner drivers at present on Irish roads.
A Freedom of information report from Newstalk has found that there are 5000 drivers on learner permits in County Cavan while in Monaghan there are over 3,400 learner driver on the county roads.
With the national figures of over 320,000 drivers that are driving with a learner licence the findings also found that there was over 2,100 fines issued for speeding for learner permit holders.

There has been a 13 percent rise is drivers being found driving without being accompanied by a full driver resulting in a fine of up 1,000 euros 4 penalty points and the vehicle being impounded.
1837 learners got penalty points for this offence.
238 learners nationally got penalty points for holding a mobile phone while driving for the first seven months of this year.
