The Society of the Irish Motor Industry says petrol vehicles remained the most popular engine type in 2024,

New EV sales dropped by nearly a quarter in 2024, when compared to 2023. 17,459 new electric vehicles were bought nationally last year, down from nearly 23 thousand the year before.

Locally, 83 new electric cars were sold in 2024 compared to 162 in 2023. While in Monaghan 65 new EV's were sold compared to 95 in 2023. 2,201 new registrations took place all all new cars in Cavan and Monaghan, 1255 were in Cavan and 976 in Monaghan.

The Society of the Irish Motor Industry says petrol remained the most popular engine type in 2024, at 30 percent, followed by diesel, hybrid and electric. In total, new car registrations were down one percent last year.
