The new Government has to give the same priority to the rental sector, that has been given to owner-occupiers and social housing, over the last few years.
That's according to the author of the latest Daft.ie report, as the average rent nationwide gets closer to 2 thousand euro a month.
In Monaghan, market rents were on average 9.5% higher in the third quarter of 2024 than a year previously, while in Cavan the increase on this time 12 months ago stands at 8.3%.
The average listed rent in Monaghan is now €1301, up 43% from the level seen during the Covid19 pandemic. In Cavan the average rent is now costing €1365, up an massive 82% from the level prevailing when the pandemic occurred.
Nationwide, market rents rose by an average of 1.7% in the third quarter of 2024, according to the latest Rental Report by Daft.ie, marking the fifteenth consecutive quarter in which rents nationwide have increased. The average open-market rent nationwide in the third quarter of the year was €1,955 per month, up 7.2% year-on-year and 43% higher than before the outbreak of covid19.
Ronan Lyons from, Daft.ie, says the rental market has to be given a renewed focus by whoever is in Government.
