County Monaghan has the least homes to rent in the country. However, it ranks in the top five for the number of house for sale. That's the finding of a report from Savills Ireland who took data from the most recent Daft dot ie report on the state of the property market right now and adjusted it to population figures.
According to Daft.ie there are 81 houses for sale in County Monaghan. That equates to 12.2 houses per 10,000 of the population. With only 16 rental houses available in the county, there are only 2.4 homes for 10,000 people. There are currently 189 houses for sale in County Cavan. Elsewhere in the Shannonside /Northern Sound region Leitrim has the highest number of properties for sale at 42.9 per population and Roscommon has the second highest at 41.5.
John Ring, Director of Research at Savills said the figures are very low: "If we look at the number of homes for sale, for example: in Monaghan, it's about 81 and adjusting that for population that's 12.2 per 10,000 people so, very low numbers," Mr Ring told the Joe Finnegan Show, "But, it's even lower again if we look at the rental numbers. So when we did an analysis just last week there were 16 homes to share or rent on Daft.ie in Monaghan and then adjusting that for population that's 9.4 for 10,000 people so, very low numbers indeed."
