The 80th anniversary of the Cavan Orphanage fire tragedy will be marked next week.
A special candlelit vigil will take place on Thursday, February the 23rd at 6pm.
A procession will take place on Cavan’s Main Street and a vigil will be held to mark all the lives that were lost in the Convent courtyard.
The names of the 36 victims will be read out and an Ecumenical Service has also been organised.
Cllr Aidan Fitzpatrick says a memorial to remember those who died will be erected in the future.
"There is a commemoration and it is a sensitive issue. The council are working well with the orphanage committee to have a memorial put up in the future".
