The 80th anniversary of the Cavan Orphanage fire tragedy will be marked later today. A special candlelit vigil will start at 6pm, and a procession will take place on Cavan’s Main Street to mark all the lives that were lost in the Convent courtyard.
Cavan County Council are advising motorists that Town Hall Street and Main Street in Cavan Town will be closed from its junction with Thomas Ashe and Town Hall Street later today.
The road closures come into effect from 6pm to 9pm to accommodate the Commemoration Ceremony. Speaking to Northern Sound about the event, Sean Galligan said it was 'important' to mark the anniversary in a special way.
