The PSNI has welcomed a 16-month sentence that was handed down to a man who was in possession of illegal drugs in Crossmaglen last year.
33-year-old Finbar Stephen Maguire pleaded guilty to possession of a class A drug with intent to supply and possession of criminal property at Newry Crown Court on the 15th of September last. He was sentenced yesterday to eight months in prison and eight months on licence.
Mr Maguire was arrested following an intelligence led search of a house in Crossmaglen, in May 2021, by South Armagh Neighbourhood officers assisted by officers from Tactical Support Group. A quantity of cocaine and a sum of cash were recovered as a result of the search.
Detective Constable Cunningham said the PSNI will continue to tackle the supply, use and harm caused by illegal drugs. He also pointed out that the support of local people was essential in
helping the PSNI to remove dangerous drugs from the streets and put those who seek to profit from them in prison.
The Detective Constable urged anyone with information or concerns about the supply or use of illegal drugs to contact police.
