There were over 63,000 children living in the Shannonside Northern Sound Region last year. Figures complied by the CSO during Census 2022 show the number of people under 15 increased across the region over the last 6 years. Figures from the Central Statistics Office show the break down of families across the country as of last year.
The data shows an average of 1 to 2 children per family in the region Cavan had the highest population of under 15s at 17,752, but was also the only county locally, to see that figure drop compared to census 2016.
That's followed by Monaghan and Roscommon who share similar figures of just over 14,000 children, up several hundred on the previous recordings.
There were 220 more children under the age of 15 in Longford than in 2016, bringing the total to 9,728, while Leitrim saw an increase of 238 to bring their juvenile population to 7,161.
Nationally, as of last year, there were over 1,012,287 children aged under 15 in Ireland.
