New figures from the Department of Agriculture show that 63 cattle were reported stolen or missing in Cavan and Monaghan last year.
63 cattle were reported stolen or missing across Cavan and Monaghan during 2022.
That's a 59 percent increase on the 12 months previously where 37 cattle were reported as missing or stolen across the two counties.
In 2021 there was 11 cows stolen or reported as missing this compares to 34 during 2022, which represents a trebling of numbers when compared to the previous year.
According to figures released to the Irish Examiner by the department of Agriculture over 1300 bovine animals were reported as being stolen or missing during last year.
County Meath had the highest number stolen or reported missing at 217 in the twelve months up to end of 2022.
