Almost 600 warrants issued for the arrests of individuals in counties Cavan and Monaghan remain outstanding, new figures show according to the Irish Independent.
The paper reports that’s approximately 590 court imposed orders sanctioned by judges in both counties have yet to be executed despite 850 warrants having been disposed of between January 2022 and the end of September this year.
The figures, released under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act to the Irish Independent, illustrate the growing difficulty gardaí face in bringing suspects before the courts.
Bench warrants, by their nature, are issued by judges when a defendant fails to turn up for a court date and ordinarily result in gardaí being granted powers to arrest a person and bring them before the next court sitting.
