60% of Irish taxpayers are missing out on refunds for their medical expenses. 43% say they don't claim because they're not aware of their entitlements or eligibility, while one in four say they're afraid of having anything to do with the tax authorities.
The survey was carried out by Taxback.com. Spokesperson, Marian Ryan says people shouldn't be afraid of the Revenue Commissioners. "The fear of ending up owing money and things going in the opposite direction is really prevalent for people.
"People who would have a received Covid-19 payments in 2020, they do have a fear of underpayments - but they shouldn't be. If you file your return, including your medical expenses, it can be used to reduce down the payment," she added.
