Celebrations have taken place today to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Citizens Information centre in Monaghan.
The Centre plays a key role in providing advice and support to local families on a range of issues like social welfare entitlements, medical cards, consumer affairs and employment rights
This year alone, the Centre has responded to over 9,100 queries. Minister for Social Protection, Heather Humphreys, launched the refurbished offices that house the Citizens Information Staff in Monaghan Town to coincide with the milestone earlier this afternoon.
The Minister thanked the staff for their dedication, saying that they play a vital role in the community and have done so over the past 50 years. Cecilia Smith the Development Manager with North Connacht & Ulster Citizens Information Service says its wonderful to be able to be there to assist people when they need help.
"Since its establishment in 1973, Monaghan Citizens Information Centre has been very much at the heart of community life here in Monaghan," the Minister said.
"You have played, and continue to play, a key role in supporting the information, advice and advocacy needs of people living here and across the border region. Just think of the positive impact that this service has had on people's lives over 50 years. You've supported our elderly citizens, people with disabilities and families in need of help and advice."
