Five people lost their lives in 2024 on roads across Cavan and Monaghan.
There were three deaths on Cavan's roads in 2024, half the previous year when there were six people killed.
While two people lost their lives on Monaghan roads over the past 12 months, compared to seven in 2023. Most recently, Sean Brady from Corlurgan was killed on Christmas Day, in a two-car collision on the N55 at Clarebane.
Dylan Costin from Belturbet was killed on March 11th. He was a passenger in a car involved in a collision with a truck on the N3 at Drumcrave.
Before that, Motorcyclist and father of four Gary Murphy from Ballinagh was killed when the motorcycle he was travelling on collided with a second vehicle on the N55 at Corlurgan on this day last year. In Monaghan, Father of two Rowell Ladao, aged in his 30s, died following a single-vehicle collision in Gort and Teannal, Knockatallon in September and a man in his 20s lost his life in a two vehicle collision involving a car and van on the N2 at Moneygorbet, Castleblayney on May 9th.
He was named as Asen Nadkov a native of Bulgaria and had lived in Ireland for a number of years and was living in Castleblayney at the time of his death. Nationally the number of road deaths in 2024 have dropped by 4% compared to 2023, provisional road traffic collision figures show.
One hundred and seventy-four people died in fatal collisions in 2024, which is a decrease of seven deaths compared to last year. The figures released by the RSA (Road Safety Authority) reveal a high proportion of male fatalities.
