More than 400 people have responded to a survey on the future of the Market House in Castleblayney.
However, some local councillors questioned why more funding wasn't forthcoming for similar projects in Carrickmacross.
At today's meeting of the Carrickmacross/Castleblayney MD, councillors heard from Lawrence Lord from architectural consultants AP+E about work on the regeneration of the Market House.
An online survey is available for residents to have their say on future uses of the Market House, with over 400 respondents so far, 90% of whom are strongly in favour of plans to restore the Market House.
Responses to the online survey will be accepted until the 15th of January.
Face-to-face consultations will be carried out in the Gate Lodge on the 8th of January for people who can't partake in the online survey, subject to covid-19 restrictions.
A report will then be presented to the MD in March of next year.
Aidan Campbell said it's important that everyone takes the opportunity to have their say.
However, while Councillor PJ O'Hanlon supports the project, he said there is not enough funding being provided for similar projects in Carrickmacross.
He told the meeting that two-thirds of rates in the MD are collected from Carrickmacross and that the disparities in funding for projects within the two towns "are clear to see".
Councillor O'Hanlon said Carrickmacross needed to be "treated fairly", but Councillor Aidan Campbell responded by saying that Castleblayney has been a "weak link for a long time" and that the town is "only now catching up".
