Volunteers from Cavan Tidy towns collected over 40 bags of rubbish along an 8km stretch of the by-pass in the town over the weekend.
A lot of hard work and effort went into the cause with the secretary of the local tidy towns group saying that up to 90 percent of the rubbish was brought about by passing motorists throwing litter out of their cars.
Car parts, washing machines and furniture were among the items discovered during the large scale clean up.
Paul lynch from Tidy Towns Cavan says the by-pass is a busy route and also serves as an entrance to the county town.
Paul says the town has got much cleaner overall in past number of years and the benefits can be seen across the Cavan Town.
The secretary of Cavan Tidy Towns says that up to 15 volunteers took part in Saturdays clean up.
