New figures from the Department of Agriculture show that almost 60 cattle were reported stolen or missing in the Shannonside Northern Sound region last year.
Cows aged between 13 and 24 months were the most frequently taken.
Monaghan recorded the largest number of thefts in the region at 26 cattle.
In Cavan, the department were notified of 11 cows stolen over the 12 month period.
Roscommon recorded the highest number of thefts in the Shannonside region with 13 cattle stolen.
The figures which were published by the Farmers Journal, highlight that both Leitrim and Longford recorded fewer thefts at six and three respectively.
Nationally, 1,027 cattle were reported stolen, the highest counties included Limerick and Meath with 204 and 181 thefts in each county.
