31 nursing homes have been forced to close in the past three years. Nursing Homes Ireland will today present its concerns on the unsustainable financial pressures facing the sector.
A variety of rapidly rising operational costs, and an increasingly complex resident profile, is leading to issues. CEO of Nursing Homes Ireland, Tadhg Daly, says the role nursing homes play can't be understated.
"Having a functioning nursing home sector with care in the community is a critical part of a well functioning health service," he explained. "What we need to do immediately is introduce additional funding into the fair deal scheme and move quickly to review the whole pricing mechanism to ensure that we have a sustainable and viable sector into the sector."
