29 vehicles have been stolen in Cavan and Monaghan in the first six months of this year.
Data released by the Central Statistics Office show there were 13 motor thefts in the two counties in the first three months of the year. That figure increased by three thefts in the second quarter of 2024 with 16 motor thefts in the region in the second quarter of this year.
Nationally, 4,037 motor theft and related offences were reported in the first six months of the year with Dublin accounting for a sizeable proportion of thefts with 2,185 vehicles stolen in the capital. 2023 was the worst year for motor thefts in more than a decade with a total of 7,638 stolen last year, 5,000 of which were cars.
