Discussions around housing needs, social housing, and the new Croi na Conaithe scheme for vacant and derelict buildings were very much to the fore of this week's monthly meeting of Cavan County Council's elected members.
Speaking to Northern Sound after proceedings, Cathaoirleach, Cllr John Paul Feeley said there has been a number of positive developments with stock and supply in Cavan over the last few months and he highlighted how there are 286 homes currently in the pipeline.
He added that four additional staff have been appointed to the local authority to deal with social housing needs. Cllr Feeley said the new Croi na Conaithe scheme will also help to bring derelict and vacant properties back into use.
He also pointed to the "ongoing work" of Cavan County Council as part of a concerted effort to secure a site for emergency accommodation for victims of domestic violence. "Cavan Monaghan does not have a dedicated unit for people who are the victims of domestic violence.
"There is ongoing work in collaboration with Tearman and the HSE to provide that accommodation within the region, and it's important that it is there. That is happening and Cavan Council is committed to bringing that forward," added Cllr Feeley.
