28 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence in Cavan and Monghan over the Christmas period.
7,405 checkpoints were conducted across the country from the first of December to the 3rd of January as part of the Garda Christmas and New Year
Road Safety Campaign.
The operation focused on drink/drug driving, speeding, use of mobile phone while driving and non-wearing of seatbelts.
The Gardaí of the Cavan/Monaghan Division arrested 26 motorists for drink driving and 2 for driving under the influence of drugs.
Nationally, 745 people were arrested in just over a month for intoxicated driving while a further 14,704 speeding offences were detected and 4,829 traffic collisions were also reported.
