Almost 2,500 college students across Cavan and Monaghan are in line to benefit from the increase to student maintenance grants after Budget 2024.
Figures from SUSI scheme show 1353 students from Cavan were awarded the grant for this current academic year while 1,069 in Monaghan received it.
Fine Gael Senator Joe O'Reilly praised budget 2024 for "putting money in people's pockets" and said measures like increasing the SUSI maintenance grant for third level students by €342 will help the so-called "squeezed middle".
He added that for a second year in a row, the student contribution fee will be cut by €1000 and, if SUSI was paying half your fee, students will get another €500 off.
The renters' credit has been extended and back-dated for 2022 and 2023 and public transport half-price fares are now being extended to people up to their 26th birthday.
