23 young people aged 16 to 25 have lost their lives on Irish roads so far this year. Overall, 100 people have died in incidents on our roads in 2023.
Almost half of all deaths occurred at night-time, when the roads are at their quietest. CEO of the Road Safety Authority (RSA), Sam Waide, says the number of young fatalities on our roads this year is concerning.
"This time of year, year to date, is actually more than the last two previous years in terms of six month figures. So, that's an alarming increase in that particular age group," he added.
