Monaghan County Council has dealt with 23 incidents of diesel laundering waste dumping so far this year.
It's close to a doubling of the number of incidents reported in both 2019 and 2020, which was 12.
The cost incurred by the Local Authority to date in dealing with this dumping has been around €100,000.
Since 2003, the Council has dealt with 618 incidents of diesel wash dumping, with these located primarily in the south-east of the county.
This has cost the council around 3.4 million euro, though these costs have been fully recouped through national funding allocations from the Department of Environment, Climate and Communication.
