The Save Navan Hospital Campaign and the Drogheda Hospital Campaign will hold protests outside both hospitals on Monday. The effort is to highlight what is being described as "the deepening A&E crisis in the region".
Cathaoirleach of the campaign and Meath West TD, Peadar Tóibín, says A&E services in Meath and Louth are at "critical levels". He pointed to how there were no ambulances available to 999 callers in Cavan and Monaghan last weekend and patients are now waiting for "record hours" to see a doctor.
Mr Tobin added that 360 people die every year as a result of A&E overcrowding and there is a clear correlation emerging between waiting over five hours for A&E treatment and increased morbidity and mortality.
