The giant waves triggered by a 9.1 magnitude earthquake killed almost 230-thousand people.
Survivor Martunis Sarbini was just 7 when his hometown in Indonesia was struck.
He spent three weeks stranded on a beach, before being discovered alive - and reunited with his dad and great grandmother.
He now has a family of his own - but, speaking through an interpreter - he says he can never forget that day:
