A young Ballyconnell woman killed in a collision near Derrrylin on the Ballyconnell Rd on Monday night had recently discovered she was to become a new mum.
20 year old Amy Stokes had married her husband Damien just three months earlier.
At her funeral in Ballyconnell this morning, parish priest Fr Liam Kelly said that Amy was “happy, radiant and full of fun”.
Addressing mourners at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, he told those gathered that the newly wed couple had only found out recently that Amy was to become a mother and they were both over the moon that a baby was on the way.
Recalling the events of Monday night, Fr Kelly explained how two lives were lost that night.
Appealing for safety on the roads especially around the Christmas period, Fr Kelly said that far too many great people like Amy have lost their lives, and too many families are left at a loss and left to grief for the ones that have died as a result of being killed on our roads.
Following the mass, Amy was laid to rest in Carrick-On-Shannon Cemetery.
