20 secondary school students who were left without a seat on their school bus in the wider Mullahoran and Ballymachugh area have finally got a seat on their local bus.
After weeks of highlighting the plight of these students by concerned parents and local representatives the students travelled to school today on the A20 bus.
The route services Kilnaleck, Killydoon, Ballyheelan via Ballinagh to Cavan Town. The families staged a protest at the start of the new school term and told Northern Sound at the time they were prepared to ramp up their campaign until the Department of Education fixed the problems on their route.
The affected students are on what is called concessionary transport tickets because their families have chosen not to send them to the nearest school in their catchment are because it is in Granard, County Longford. The problem is compounded by the fact that other families who do not necessarily need a bus ticket have bought one at the capped rate of €125 per household - but may not have taken up their seat.
On a social media post, local parents said that they were grateful that the situation has been resolved and thanked several local representatives in a bid to receive the welcome outcome for the local students.
