A local councillor has expressed his dismay at the speed that one motorist was traveling yesterday on the N3.
Cavan Roads Policing were conducting speed checks on the N3 when they clocked a car driving at 173kph in a 100kph zone.
Co Cavan Councillor Shane P O'Reilly who has described speeds like this on our roads as wrong in so many ways. When stopped, the driver was discovered to be a learner with no one accompanying them.
They were arrested for dangerous driving and their car seized. While in custody, the driver also refused to provide a sample of blood or urine to test for alcohol for drugs, which is a legal requirement.
A fixed penalty notice was issued and the driver will now appear in court to face multiple charges. Cllr O'Reilly says these levels of speeding on our roads are bordering on attempted murder.
