Cavan and Monaghan Hospital wish to advise local people that the emergency department is currently experiencing significantly high levels of activity.
And, in a statement from the hospital, management describe the situation as "in escalation" with 16 people on trolleys at Cavan General this morning.
The Statement addressed to all GPs in the Northern Sound region said "there are high numbers of patient presentations to the emergency department" and are advising patients to expect "significant delays and limited bed capacity at present". Cavan and Monaghan Hospital is still providing full emergency care if required, however, the advice to patients and their doctors at present is that if any alternatives to an emergency department referral are available "these should be explored as a priority".
