The INMO is calling for elective hospital procedures to be cancelled, as the number of people waiting on trolleys exceeds 630 today.
Locally 14 people were waiting for a bed earlier in Cavan General Hospital while 23 were waiting for a bed in the A&E in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.
There were none waiting on a bed at Our Lady's Hospital, Navan.
The nursing union says it's clear that the public hospital system cannot provide both safe emergency and elective care with such levels of overcrowding.
University Hospital Limerick remains the most overcrowded, with 93 patients waiting for a bed today.
In the past few minutes Cavan General Hospital has issued a statement:
Our Emergency Department is experiencing high numbers of presentations of admissions, we are
now in escalation.
We ask you to assist us as we move through this challenging time by supporting our hospital
facilities. Please avoid hospital (ED) referrals where possible and use alternative pathways where
available, ensuring the Emergency Department is reserved for emergency presentations.
