Over 1,300 people are waiting for a driving test in Cavan and Monaghan.
The Road Safety Authority estimates that the current waiting time is 25-30 weeks.
The figures are up until October 27th, and include all those who have a scheduled test or have applied for one.
They were released to Labour TD Sean Sherlock after a parliamentary question.
There are 926 waiting in Cavan, and Monaghan has 427.
Labour Party rep in County Cavan, Liam van der Spek said delays in getting driving licences particularly impact those in more rural regions of the country like Cavan & Monaghan where public transport has always been limited compared to cities, and particularly now with COVID.
The RSA says it has rehired 16 testers who’s contracts expired earlier this year and is increasing testing capacity with the plan to bring waiting times down to 10 weeks by the end of next year.
