A Driver has been caught travelling 127kmh in a 60kmh zone in Co Cavan over the bank holiday weekend.
Other road defences detected by gardaí over the weekend including more than 220 using mobile phones, over 100 people caught with no seatbelts, while 170 fines were issued to unaccompanied learner drivers.
Gardaí also seized a total 613 vehicles for a range of road traffic offences under Section 41 of the Roads Traffic Act. Meanwhile, a person was arrested for drink driving every hour over the Bank Holiday Weekend.
That's according to the Gardai following their Roads Policing Operation which ended at 7am yesterday morning. 196 people were arrested for driving under the influence between Thursday and yesterday while over 900 drivers were detected breaking the speed limit. Last weekend saw one person lose their lives bringing the total number of deaths on Irish roads this year to 71.
