Of the 3,500 empty council houses in Ireland, 94 are in County Cavan and 16 in Monaghan.
The up-to-date figures which were released by the National Oversight and Audit Commission also shows that while there are currently 1,114 waiting on a council house in Cavan, 1,161 people are on Monaghan County Council's housing waiting list.
Monaghan County Council told Northern Sound the 16 empty properties on their books are undergoing 're-let works'.
All the properties not available to rent in Cavan are also at various stages of being prepared for re-letting.
Cavan County Council reported it purchased six houses which have to be prepared for letting, while 34 of their other properties have to be assessed for pre-letting works while tenders for pre-letting works have been sought on four others.
The national figures were released following a Freedom of Information request by leader of the Aontú political party, Peadar Toibín.
