It is an increase of 13 on the same period last year.

A woman in her 70s has become the 100th person to die on Irish roads so far this year.

She died when the car she was driving collided with a truck on the N25 near Dungarvan County Waterford at around 9:20 this morning.

The truck driver was taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries. A forensic examination is underway and Gardai are asking witnesses to come forward.

The woman's death brings to 100 the number of people who have died on Irish roads so far this year, an increase of 13 on the same period last year.
