Training is is currently underway for 10 newly recruited firefighters who will be placed at stations throughout Co Monaghan. The news was welcomed by local representatives of Monaghan County Council at this week's meeting. Towards the end of last year, the local authority adopted a plan put forward by the Monaghan Fire and Civil Protection service which put a particular emphasis on recruitment. Monaghan Fire and Civil Protection attended 31 emergency calls during May 2024. Call types attended were dominated by fire alarm activations and RTC'S with a rise in domestic house fire calls.
According to Monaghan County Council, the busy training period is ongoing throughout the county with QQI pump operator course complete. Compartment Fire Behaviour Refresher Training (CFBT) was carried out over 3 days at the facility behind Monaghan Fire Station.
