Maternity services in Cavan General will be “built upon” according to local Minister Heather Humphreys.
She was speaking after a meeting between Health Minister Simon Harris and midwife representatives.
It’s after rumours of plans within the RCSI Hospital Group to merge the Midwifery Led Unit and the Consultant Led Unit. However, neither the RCSI Group nor management in Cavan General Hospital have responded to a request for comment.
Minister Harris confirmed the Government’s intention to roll out midwife led care across the country in line with the National Maternity Strategy.
He today told the meeting the midwife unit will remain open.
