Luke P. Coyle

Luke P. Coyle, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on November 28th, 2024. He was 77 years old.
He is the beloved husband of 50 years to Julia “Judy” (nee Higgins) Coyle and the loving father of Patricia (Anthony) Daly, and Luke P. (Eileen) Coyle. He is the proudest Pop Pop to Shannon, Julia, and Oliver Daly, Amelia, Evelyn, and Clara Coyle. He is the brother of John (Mary) Coyle, Bridie (Sean) Donnelly, Richie (Margaret) Coyle, and Kieran (Jacinta) Coyle, and the late Patrick (Jean) Coyle, Tony (Patricia) Coyle Evelyn (Pat) Reilly, Thomas (Marie) Coyle, Mardie (Mel) Baxter, and Rose “May” (Pat) Riley. He is is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Luke was born on June 17, 1947, in Kilnaleck, County Cavan, Ireland and was the sixth child Paddy and Eileen (nee Grimes) Coyle. He grew up on a small farm in Tawlaught and was one of 11 children. Luke went to Ballynarry national school. He started his working career as a shop assistant and progressed to bar work. He emigrated to the United States on April 9, 1970. Luke brought his love for the GAA to the states with him and his legacy continues today through his family as they are all active in the Philadelphia GAA, thanks to the effort he lay forth for them. Luke made many great friends through the Gaelic Athletic Association, the Cavan Society, and the Irish community.
Luke married the love of his life, Judy Higgins in October of 1975 at St. Monica’s Church in Berwyn. And were blessed with 2 children, Patricia and Luke. Family was the center of Luke’s life, especially the sparkle of his eye, his adoring grandchildren.
Luke worked many jobs before owning Coyle Brothers Landscaping, with his brothers and nephew.
Luke enjoyed all things sports, when he wasn’t watching Gaelic football or hurling games he would be watching the Eagles, Flyers, Sixers and Phillies. Luke was always listening to the radio stations live from Ireland, and had a great fondness for Irish traditional and county music. This always connected him to his home, that at times felt so far away.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Wednesday evening, December 4, 2024, from 6 pm to 8 pm in the Funeral Home of John Stretch 236 East Eagle Rd. Havertown, Pa. 19083 and to his Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 11 am in St. Denis Church 2401 St. Denis Lane Havertown, Pa. 19083. The interment will take place in St. Denis Cemetery.
