Ann (Holt) Reilly

Ann (Holt) Reilly

Throggs Neck, Bronx, New York.

Passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2024 surrounded by her loving family.

Ann is survived by her husband of 70 years, Bernard (Native of Ballyjamesduff, Cavan); her children, Brian (Sheila); Ann Jones (Michael); Patrick (Noreen); Mary Maringione (Alfred); Charles (Patricia). Her 14 grandchildren: Lisamarie (Andy); Michael (Jenn); Brian (Amanda); Owen; Erin (Don); Carolyn (Zak); Christine; Sean; Pierce (Jena); Chasee (Julia); Coral; Skylar; Charles and Ashlynn. Her 7 great grandchildren; Gunnar; Anya; Cecilia; Gracie; Corrine; Shane; Roisin and 2 on the way. Her beloved nieces, nephews and their families, and many cherished friends.

Ann is predeceased by her beloved daughter-in-law Linda; her parents Charles and Ann Holt; brother Charles, wife Mary; sister Mary and husband Tom; sister Una and husband Fintan: and twin brother Frank and wife Patricia.

Ann was born December 24, 1933 in the Bronx to hard-working Irish immigrants from counties Wicklow and Leitrim. Ann met her husband Barney following his return from the Korean War. They fell in love and married in 1954. Together they raised their children with love, compassion and a deep faith in our Lord. Ann had great pride in all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She shared so much of herself and always made sure they each felt special, unique and important.

Ann was active in countless church and community groups throughout her life. She was always eager to meet people, new and old, and share her God-given optimism, love and knowledge, as well as her unwavering faith with all. Ann’s love for her country, as well and her Irish heritage, was evident by her hosting numerous Ceili’s, the many proud marches up 5th Avenue and baking mouthwatering soda breads,

Ann and Barney’s lives together, and their shared love for each other, has been inspiring to their family and friends. Their love has been a heart-warming story that proves that we should always choose joy, that we have more to learn, more to share, more to give and more to receive.

In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that you consider a donation to St. Vincent DePaul Society St.Theresa’s Church and for everyone to carry forward Ann’s spirit of generosity toward others by sharing a smile, a joke, a story and always showing gratitude to our heroic veterans for service to the country she loved so dearly.

Our deepest sympathy to Ann's husband Barney and to her children Brian, Ann, Patrick, Mary and Charley and all their extended families. Since the first time we met Ann RIP in 1967 with her "5 Angels" she has been a constant supporter of our family with her enquiries about everyone's well being, her prayers and Masses and her weekly phone calls. Ann was a real lady with an endearing sense of humour and fun and she is now resting in Heaven after a life of service to so many people. May happy memories sustain all of you in all the days, months and years ahead. Ann died as she lived, everyone's friend.

What a beautiful tribute. I, too had an Irish mother ☘️. Brian and family-I am so sorry for this incredible loss. Ann sounded very special. I’ll pass words on that someone told me: “eventually you will feel her presence more than her loss”. That being said, the loss you feel is so deep; it’s because of the depth of love that was shared. May God welcome Ann with loving, eternal arms.
