Councillors have voted to reject plans to develop 28 social houses in Cootehill.
The Part VIII planning application was for a new housing estate to adjoin Drumlin Drive, a private estate in the town.
Sinn Fein’s Paddy McDonald proposed that the plans be amended to see 24 houses built, but he failed to secure a seconder.
Director of Services Eoin Doyle expressed the executive’s disappointment that it was voted down, however said they respect and accept the decision and will continue to look for other suitable developments.
Fianna Fail Councillor Aiden Fitzpatrick proposed that the development not go ahead, and he said the MD needed to respect how local residents felt.
