Local close contact services welcome easing of restrictions

Close contact services, like hairdressers and beauty salons, are opening for the first time this year.

Restrictions have eased for the first time this year, with people now able to travel between counties and have visitors in their gardens.

Religious services as well as museums, galleries, and libraries have reopened.

Close contact services, like hairdressers and beauty salons, are also re-opening after being closed since the end of December and non-essential retail can offer click and collect or shopping by appointment.

Lorraine O'Neill, of Main Street Barbers in Cavan Town, says it's great to welcome back customers.

While she's excited about re-opening today, Lorraine warned that hairdressers could lose custom in the future as a result of behavioural changes during the pandemic:

Meanwhile, a beauty salon owner in Monaghan Town is looking forward to a degree of normality after being shut for almost five months.

Olivia Keenan added that it's been a very difficult period for her sector, and spoke to this morning's Joe Finnegan Show about the procedures she has in place to ensure her business is safe:
